Scooby and the gang’s latest adventure is good for younger kids, but only teases the rest of us with nostalgia.

“Scooby-Doo! Moon Monster Madness” was just released on DVD and Digital HD, and it follows the same Scooby formula we are all familiar with.. Mostly.  Fred, Velma, and Daphne find themselves in another shady situation as Shaggy and Scooby wander around stumbling across clues.  What’s different this time, and also the highlight of this particular episode, is they are in SPACE! And they aren’t being harassed by a spirit or earthly monster, instead it’s an Alien! (One that looks vaguely familiar to seasoned filmgoers.)

This adventure is aimed at the younger market, so most of the peril and humor is adequately muted.  That being said there are some fun little film references thrown in for the parents.  Characters and places are named after famous Sci-Fi directors, and Richard Branson could easily fill billionaire Sly Barron’s shoes.  For kids, it’s a fun space adventure with characters they already know and love.  The children we screened it with said their favorite part about the film was that it took place in space and on the moon which made it different from previous Scooby movies.
