Starz is bringing Neil Gaiman’s award winning novel “American Gods” to life with a series set to air in 2017.  Fans of the novel were excited the moment this adaptation was announced, and that excitement has continued to grow as the inspired casting choices have slowly been revealed.

This morning Starz released a new image from the production:  Bilquis, played by Yetide Badaki (“Aquarius,” “Masters of Sex”) is an ancient goddess of love who craves the worship she inspired in eras long gone, and is eager to find that same relevance in today’s world.   In the novel, Bilquis is one of the first gods to be revealed, in a truly disturbing scene, which the image below alludes to…

Starz has hinted towards more surprises and reveals during San Diego Comic-Con this week.  We can’t wait to see what they have in store!  Be sure to check the gallery below for previously released images from the series.

“American Gods” has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous accolades including Hugo, Nebula and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr.Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.
